Comprehensive overview of ICU
Derby Teaching Hospitals is a large NHS Foundation Trust that provides integrated healthcare services. Its two main sites, the Royal Derby Hospital and the London Road Community Hospital, together count 1,100 beds. The Adult Critical Care unit has 44 beds and includes both an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a Surgical High Dependency unit. The Critical Care facilities provide a variety of services to about 3,000 patients each year.
ICU environments have their own unique requirements for documentation and data capture. Poorly managed documentation can not only impact on the quality of care patients receive, but it can also prevent the unit from ensuring that it receives all of the reimbursements and revenues that it should. ORBIS ICU-Manager provides tools to efficiently manage the ICU, with a comprehensive overview of rooms, beds, patients, etc., medical and nursing documentation and a broad range of other clinical activities.
Faster workflow, less risk of error
Implementing the ORBIS ICU solution will allow Derby Teaching Hospitals to automate the collection of data from monitors and devices in the ICU, eliminating the need for manual transcription. By speeding up workflow and reducing the risk of potential errors, it can help the hospital to improve clinical safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
The agreement includes ORBIS Medication, which offers prescribing and administration of drugs from the patient's admission to discharge that encompasses drug prescription with clinical decision support, drug administration, pharmaceutical validation and resupply.
ORBIS was chosen by Derby Teaching Hospitals for its innovation, flexibility and its ability to be locally configured. In addition, site-defined workflows can be created to support interfacing to bedside devices and equipment, clinical decision support, medication management, reporting and specific terminology for critical care clinical notes.
Clinical efficiency and cost effectiveness
"We are pleased that the first ORBIS implementation in the UK will support the Adult Critical Care unit of Derby Teaching Hospitals with a flexible clinical information system that meets its specific needs," comments Grant Witheridge, Managing Director UK & Ireland, Agfa HealthCare. "This agreement underscores our strategy to help hospitals and healthcare organisations to enhance their patient care with a range of products and services that runs from Digital Radiography, Enterprise Imaging and Radiology IT, to full hospital IT and integrated care."
"ORBIS ICU-Manager will provide us with tools to help us reach our goals of improving clinical safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness, as well as our planning and care processes," comments Dr. Nick Reynolds LLM FRCA FICM Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, "it offers the flexibility and innovation we need to handle the specific requirements of our critical care environment."
