There are currently approximately 45 million people in Europe who report a long standing health problem or disability. Further, the aging population means that more people will have to live with some sort of disability. Recent figures from the 2008-based national population projections EUROPOP2008 show that the share of people aged 65 years or over in the total population is projected to increase from 17.1% to 30.0% and the number is projected to rise from 84.6 million in 2008 to 151.5 million in 2060.

Identifying Emerging and Future Risks in Remote Health Monitoring and Treatment
Since 2007, ENISA has been conducting a series of activities towards developing a comprehensive framework for identifying and assessing emerging and future risks (EFR). As a result of these activities, ENISA has constructed an EFR Framework. The EFR Framework is scenario-based and consists of certain phases for the formulation and analysis of scenarios, mobilisation of the necessary expertise (human resources) to assess and analyse the scenarios and leveraging of the management capabilities to collect and disseminate assessed information (e.g., scenario descriptions, threats, vulnerabilities, assets, impacts, risks, etc.).

European citizens are getting older and are increasingly living with chronic diseases. Their health condition often requires enhanced medical attention. The Financing eHealth study was commissioned by DG INFSO and Media's ICT for Health Unit. The aim is to assess different financing opportunities against the financing needs of eHealth investment. The overriding goal of the study, and of this final report, is to assist Member States and the European Commission (EC) in their efforts to meet the eHealth Action Plan objective of "supporting and boosting investment in eHealth".
