The Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) 2009's main theme is Medical Informatics in a United and Healthy Europe. For this purpose, a panel of high-level medical informatics professionals and scientists will participate and will provide keynote presentations, tutorials, and workshops.

The European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) was formed in 1976 with assistance from the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Orgnisation (WHO).
