Biggest ever eHealth conference in Europe - The World of Health IT is a real success!

ICT for HealthWith over 1,800 participants from 63 countries and 55 exhibitors, the World of Health IT conference and exhibition was the biggest eHealth event to-date in Europe. European Commission together with seven EU organisations active in eHealth, WHO and HIMSS have been the organisers.

The conference was preceded by many important satellite events bringing standardisation organisations, industry and users together. The event aimed to facilitate the emergence of an eHealth market place, bringing the key players together. This was made possible by a strong industry and user participation.

The European Commission repeated its calls for increased cooperation on the issue of interoperability of healthcare systems. This was echoed by major IT stakeholders. The event brought stakeholders from both the public and private sectors together to drive forward the objectives of the eHealth Action Plan.

Participants recognised the EU's role in leading the eHealth agenda, in Europe and beyond, through its support to eHealth Research and Development, Policy and Deployment. Preparations have already started for next year's event, which will take place in Vienna, 23-25 October, 2007. It will focus on Innovation and Deployment.
