conhIT Newcomer Award 2018: The Search is on for Healthcare IT Talents

Be it robotics experts or software developers for 'paper-free hospitals', the digitisation of the healthcare system means that medical IT specialists are in short supply. In order to bring the health IT industry and healthcare institutions together with potential employees, conhIT - Connecting Healthcare IT is organising a comprehensive programme of events. The conhIT Newcomer Award will be the highlight of the career service events at the show.

The awards will recognise the best theses by Bachelor's and Master's degree graduates of Medical Informatics, eHealth, Health IT, Health Management, Health Economics and Healthcare Management. Students have until 28 February 2018 to apply and can submit their entries online to the conhIT website.

A panel of experts representing science and industry will examine all the entries and choose the theses which display a particularly practical approach towards improving healthcare in the long term through IT. It is important that these describe specific health IT methods, tools and technology and how they are put to use.

"There is a growing need for qualified specialists in this sector. We want to use our career service events to specifically bring students and companies together here. With the work they have presented in recent years students have repeatedly taken us by surprise with their detailed and extensive knowledge of processes in hospitals and practices. By staging the conhIT Newcomer Award we aim to further promising young talents, as their knowledge will be much in demand on the employment market in years to come," said Jens Naumann, chairman of the board of the German Association of Health IT Vendors (bvitg), and member of the panel of experts, commenting on the importance of the award.

After all the entries have been examined the authors of the five best Bachelor’s and Master’s degree theses will be announced at the end of March 2018. They will subsequently be able to give brief presentations of their work at conhIT. Based on the experts’ assessments and these presentations the winners will then be honoured with their awards. They will receive prize money totalling up to 2,000 euros and details will be publicised in a special edition of the magazine ’GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie' (MIBE). The conhIT Newcomer Award is co-sponsored by Agfa HealthCare GmbH, CompuGroup Medical SE, medatixx GmbH & Co. KG, MEIERHOFER AG, NOVENTI GmbH and Rhenus Archiv Services GmbH.

From 17 to 19 April 2018 around 400 newcomers are expected to attend conhIT, which combines an Industrial Fair, Academy, Congress and Networking Events, in Berlin. Initial contact can be made in the Career Area at the Career Workshop which will be followed by a Career Speed Networking Event. Also of use is the conhIT Career Guide which lists potential employers. conhIT career service events specifically target students who will soon be graduating and want to get started in a career.

About conhIT - Connecting Healthcare IT
conhIT targets decision-makers in IT departments, management, in the medical profession, nursing, doctors, doctors’ networks and medical care centres who need to find out about the latest developments in IT and healthcare, meet members of the industry and make use of opportunities for high-level advanced training. As an integrated event, over a period of three days conhIT combines an Industrial Fair, a Congress and Networking Events that are of particular interest to this sector. Launched in 2008 by the German Association of Healthcare IT Vendors (bvitg) as the meeting place for the healthcare IT industry and organised by Messe Berlin, this event recently recorded over 500 exhibitors and around 9,500 visitors and has now become Europe’s leading event for the healthcare IT sector.

conhIT is organised in cooperation with the following industry associations: the German Association of Healthcare IT Vendors (bvitg), the German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS), the German Association of Medical Computer Scientists (BVMI). The National Association of Hospital IT Managers (KH-IT) and the Chief Information Officers of University Hospitals (CIO-UK) provide contributions on the subject matter.
