June HIMSS EMEA eSeminar on "How can ICT improve patient safety and quality of care?". Dr. Veli Stroetmann, empirica Communication & Technology Research, Germany and Dr. Jean-Pierre Thierry, Symbion, France conducted a study for the European Commission on the impact of ICT on patient safety and risk management in healthcare, entitled "eHealth for Safety".

In this eSeminar, these two experts in the field will discuss the need for a comprehensive strategy in the area of patient safety that includes human, cultural and organisational factors. They will suggest that implementation should take account of interoperability, certification and accreditation processes, as well as a comprehensive policy on R&D.

Other topics to be touched on include Computerised Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and Decision Support Systems (DSS), and the need to integrate them both with alerting systems.
