The European Congress of the European Society of Radiology

European Society of RadiologyThe European Congress of Radiology, the annual meeting of the European Society of Radiology, will be held March 7-11, 2008 in Vienna, Austria. With more than 17,000 participants from over 90 countries, ECR has grown into the second largest medical meeting in Europe and the second largest radiological congress worldwide.

Germany, India and Israel will be ECR 2008’s honoured guests, as they will take part in the popular 'ESR meets...' programme, which gives three countries the opportunity to present themselves and their latest scientific accomplishments. Under the aegis of ECR President Prof. Maximilian F. Reiser, it will for the first time invite a partner discipline, in a move to improve the ongoing dialogue with other medical specialties. The first guest of this pioneer series will be general medicine.

With a record 5,269 submitted abstracts, which represents a 20% increase in a year alone, and lecturers from over 40 countries, ECR 2008's scientific programme will maintain its authoritative reputation. Among others, it will feature 3 Categorical courses on MRI, breast imaging and Multidetector CT; 3 New Horizons Sessions on MR diffusion and perfusion, minimally invasive therapy and high field applications (above 3T); and 3 State-of-the-Art Symposia on liver tumours, coronary CTA and new methods in the treatment of small bowel diseases. This year, ECR will focus on the theme Women in Radiology through a dedicated Professional Challenges Session, a Mini Course on women's imaging and a Special Focus Session about uterine fibroid embolisation.

More than 270 international companies have already registered to ECR, and the technical exhibition has been expanded to neighbouring locations into a so-called 'ECR City'. Additionally, extra services will be available to guests before and throughout the Congress: the Travel Service, to facilitate journey and accommodation arrangements, and the Arts and Culture programme, to let visitors fully enjoy their stay in the Austrian capital.
