Anoto Welcomes News of Additional UK Funding to Accelerate Technology Revolution

AnotoAnoto Group, the creator of Digital Pen and Paper technologies, today announced its appreciation of Monday's announcement from the UK Prime Minister and Health Secretary where they set out plans to invest £140 million into the NHS, so that nurses and midwives can spend more time with patients.

In the proposals, it was announced that £100 million will be offered to the NHS for nurses and midwives to spend on new technology that will free up time for patient care and help make essential patient details instantly available on the ward, at the bedside or in the community. "Digital pens" - that is Anoto's main business offer - was explicitly mentioned as an example of the new technology in question.

Anoto's digital pen technology is already widely used by many UK NHS Trusts for its benefits in accurate capturing of patient data into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. The technology enables healthcare providers to digitize information with minimal user retraining or technical expertise, while reducing implementation costs. Earlier this year, Anoto's digital pen technology was referenced in a whitepaper issued by the UK Department of Health, describing successful use of digital pens by midwives operating under Portsmouth NHS Hospitals Trust.

"We are greatly encouraged to hear that the Prime Minister and Health Secretary have set out plans to invest an additional £100 million in modernising NHS processes, so that nurses and midwives can embrace emerging technologies. This will enable them to spend more time with patients doing the job that really matters, whilst reducing paperwork," said Stein Revelsby, CEO of Anoto Group AB. "This investment will ensure that NHS Trusts throughout the UK will be able to benefit from our technology."

"Not only can new technology put the power back in the hands of nurses and midwives, and enable a swifter, more comprehensive understanding of a patient's care and conditions. The technology also saves unnecessary data entry, reduces the risk of data errors and data loss, and ensures that the information captured can be made immediately available for authorized healthcare professionals," added Revelsby.
