Picis software allows staff to automate the clinical and administrative documentation and care process electronically - enabling seamless transfer of this high-acuity data across care areas as the patient progresses along the critical pathway. It also permits clinicians to optimize the use of resources such as nursing staff, supplies and operating theatre schedules.
"Having seen the capabilities of the Picis solution in operation at William Osler Centre in Canada, we were convinced that it would deliver enormous benefits at Frimley Park," said Andrew Morris, chief executive of Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. "Picis CareSuite helps clinicians deliver safer patient care to the most critically ill patients by reducing transcription errors and providing access to previous patient visits. In addition, the system will allow us to operate more efficiently and make best use of our theatres and clinical staff. The surgical and nursing teams immediately recognized the benefits of this system; it's versatile and user-friendly, and helps address the inherent vulnerabilities of paper-based records in these critical arenas, namely, safety, accuracy and efficiency."
"From the clinicians' perspective, this technology truly addresses an unmet need in the hospital. Picis provides an intuitive, accessible information system that will enable us to effectively manage resources in the critical care arena, and its data management and display capabilities are extremely powerful. This is a tool that will be of great benefit to clinical teams throughout this part of the hospital," said Loua Shaikh, M.D., consultant anesthetist/intensivist at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and lead clinician on the project.
Frimley Park is installing several modules of the Picis CareSuite family of high-acuity solutions, each automating individual units within these critical environments: Critical Care Manager, PACU Manager, Anesthesia Manager, Theatre Manager, SmarTrack®, and the Extelligence® and Picis Perioperative Dashboard analytics tools. The Picis solutions will enable clinical staff to automate documentation of care along the patient encounter through the perioperative and critical care areas without having to manually re-enter data, helping to reduce the potential for errors. By improving information, analysis and business performance in these areas, Frimley Park can become more efficient and competitive.
In addition to automating information management in the perioperative and critical care space, Picis systems interoperate with other hospital information systems - helping to play a critical role in the progression of electronic health records.
"We're delighted that Frimley Park has the vision to understand the power of an integrated information system for the high-acuity units of the hospital," said Liz Popovich, executive vice president of international operations at Picis. "Providing the best care for these patients requires a specialized information management system that helps mitigate errors and potential problems, and helps senior clinical staff to maximize throughput and contain costs in these areas."
