Kliniken des Landkreises Göppingen Replaces its HIS/CIS with Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS Solution

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare announced that its ORBIS HIS/CIS (Hospital Information System/Clinical Information System) will replace the existing, 25-year old HIS/CIS at Kliniken des Landkreises Göppingen GmbH in Germany. The hospital is comprised of two sites: the Klinik am Eichert Göppingen, a basic care hospital with 780 beds; and the Helfensteinklinik Geislingen, a 185-bed, acute care hospital. Together, the hospitals care for around 36,000 in-patients and 89,000 out-patients per year.

Increase of efficiency and optimization of workflows
"With the announcement that our existing HIS/CIS would be discontinued, we had to look for a new solution that could guarantee the efficiency and quality of different processes in our hospitals. Additionally, the solution needed to use standard component hardware and software, in order to meet both future and individual requirements. Finally, the system had to prove its usefulness quantitatively and financially," explains Prof. Dr. Jörg Martin, General Manager of Kliniken des Landkreises Göppingen.

"We want to achieve a better workflow for medical and clinical procedures, and at the same time increase user acceptance and improve patient care," says Dr. Matthias Hahn, Chief Physician of General, Visceral, Accident and Reconstructive Surgery at Helfensteinklinik.

Partnership is central to project
The hospital determined that an extensive dialogue-based decision procedure would support it in achieving the best results for its future HIS/CIS. "We looked for a new partner, rather than for just a software solution," explains Wolfgang Rapp, Project Manager. "We focused on the flexibility of both the solution and the partner. After detailed testing and researching of the organizational, functional and economical aspects, we went with ORBIS from Agfa HealthCare. The solution is capable of governing all our workflow processes, and in an integrated and well-structured way."

A comprehensive package
The ORBIS system will be implemented by the beginning of 2013. To achieve this, Agfa HealthCare teams will be setting up the solution in both hospitals, addressing billing, medical and care documentation - including electronic fever charts, communication management and scheduling, management of surgery and quality assurance, the German regulatory systems of coding and benefits (DRG, MDK), and doctors' letters. Integral accounting functions will complete the package.

"This project is the first to introduce the new ORBIS AddOns, such as the Manchester-Triage-System (MTS)," points out Michael Strüter, Sales Manager, Agfa HealthCare IT DACH. "We are also very pleased with the relationship we are building with Kliniken des Landkreises Göppingen. The cooperative and dialogue-based decision-making process has already brought the collaborating parties closely together. I see a good foundation for a successful partnership."
