The Red Herring editorial team selected the companies demonstrating the most innovative technologies and business models originating from over 1000 companies from over 40 nations. These companies, representing past Red Herring Asia, Europe and North America awards, are judged on a range of qualitative and quantitative metrics, including but not limited to, technology innovation, financial performance, growth criterion, management's execution standards, potential globalization of the strategy and market share improvement.

The development of the initial Cetrea product (Cetrea Surgical™) started back in 2003 as a research project at the Regional Hospital of Horsens in Region Central Denmark under the name iHospital. iHospital resultet in a new generation of solutions for clinicians which in its strategic focus and use is significantly different from traditional types of solutions. The clinicians' enthusiasm for this new solution and the wish to keep iHospital (Cetrea Surgical) in production resulted in the establishment of C3A Medical in 2006.
As part of the company's strategy for growth both in Denmark and internationally the company name was changed from C3A Medical A/S to Cetrea A/S in september 2008. At the same time Cetrea was registered as trademark for the company's existing and future product suite.
