Depression App Moodpath Turns One Year Old: Over 100.000 Users, more than 25.000 Electronic Referral Letters Created

MoodpathOctober 10, 2017 was the date of the World Mental Health Day. On the same day, Moodpath, the app for the early recognition of depression, has been on the market for one year. Moodpath has been downloaded by more than 100.000 users and more than 25.000 referral letters for further treatment by healthcare professionals have been created by the app. Moodpath is already the number one app for the term “depression” on the iOS App Stores in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The user ratings are overwhelmingly positive (with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5).

The CE-certified medical app aims to improve the recognition of depression - with the help of an algorithm and the analysis of anonymous data. "To this day, 90 percent of the people affected don't get the treatment they need. According to the WHO more than 320 million people worldwide suffer from depression. And every month there are more than 30 million Google searches on this topic. There simply is no alternative to the complementary use of digital medical products like Moodpath, if we finally want to reduce the treatment gap in mental healthcare," says Felix Frauendorf, founder of Berlin-based Aurora Health, the company behind Moodpath.

The scientific validation of Moodpath is of particular importance to the founders. Three studies are currently being conducted, including one at the Free University of Berlin. Additional research projects in the United States are about to commence: "We are currently in contact with researchers and data scientists at Columbia University and Stanford. It is our goal to constantly use studies and the latest scientific findings to further develop our mobile depression screening," stresses Mark Goering, clinical psychologist and founder of Aurora Health. Moodpath will shortly expand its services to include customized daily plans. These plans are individually tailored to the needs of each user, adapt to progress made, and include psychological exercises based on cognitive behavioural therapy.
