Data Scientist, Insights Strategy & Design

In your role as Data Scientist with the Insights Strategy & Design group you will primarily be responsible for data science and advanced analytics activities, including explorative applications of machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence that are a component of projects directed by the Insights Strategy & Design group, and often sponsored by the Development Committee of Novartis.

You will drive the creation and execution of the data science section of project plans for one or more advanced analytics projects under the strategic guidance of the Head Insights Strategy & Design. You will further contribute to the overall project strategy.

Your role is to understand complex and critical business problems from Country/Regional/Global business functions, formulate integrated analytical approach to mine data sources, employ statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, deep learning and artificial intelligence to discover actionable insights, automate process for reducing effort and time for repeated use.

You will have the agility to be able to work across various business domains (commercial, NTO, GDD,NIBR, NBS). Able to use business presentations, smart visualization tools and contextual story-telling to translate findings back to business users with a clear impact. No direct team management

Your responsibilities will include

  • Provide solutions for a variety of business applications including but not limited to: Customer Segmentation & Targeting, Event Prediction, Propensity Modelling, Churn Modelling, Customer Lifetime Value Estimation, Forecasting, Recommender Systems, Modelling Response to Incentives, Marketing Mix Optimization, Price Optimization
  • Develop automation for repeatedly refreshing analysis and generating insights
  • Collaborate with globally dispersed internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to solve critical business problems, drive operational efficiencies, and deliver successfully on high visibility strategic initiatives
  • Understand life science data sources including sales, contracting, promotions, social media, patient claims and Real World Evidence
  • Make right choices from a breadth of tools, data sources and analytical techniques to answer a wide range of critical business questions
  • Articulate solutions/recommendations to business users. Present analytical content concisely and effectively to non-technical audiences and influence non-analytical business leaders to drive major strategic decisions basis analytical inputs
  • Project manages critical initiatives: plan proactively, anticipate and actively manage change, set stakeholder expectations as required, identify operational risks and independently drive issues to resolution, balance multiple priorities and minimize surprise escalations
  • Ensure exemplary communication with all stakeholders including senior business leaders across Novartis
  • Act as an evangelist and catalyst for innovation in Data Science and AI
  • Independently identify research articles and reproduce/apply methodology to Novartis business problems

Minimum requirements

  • Masters in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, bioinformatics, epidemiology and Statistics. PhD preferred
  • Fluent English (oral and written)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Data Science
