Survey Takes Pulse of eHealth in Europe and Prescribes Wider ICT use Among Doctors

The European Commission today published a pan-European survey on electronic services in healthcare (eHealth) that shows 87% of European doctors (General Practitioners) use a computer, 48% with a broadband connection. European doctors increasingly store and send patients' data such as lab reports electronically.

New FP7 eHealth Project - COMOESTAS

COMOESTAS aims to develop an innovative ICT system that allows patients with Medication Overuse Headache (MOH), a common condition and a major cause of disability, to receive continuous and personalised treatment. The system will be based on an advanced Alerting and Decision Support System that follows patients from the diagnosis and supports the physician in managing the therapy, controlling relevant events impacting on patient safety.

Under the Framework Programme 7 ICT Challenge 5 the European Commission has granted 7,1 million euros over the next four years to a consortium of 13 partners joined in developing DIAdvisor - a unique tool for people with diabetes to better predict and thereby control their blood glucose level.

More than half of Europeans are now regular Internet users, 80% of them have broadband connections and 60% of public services in the EU are fully available online. Two thirds of schools and half of doctors make use of fast Internet connections, thanks to strong broadband growth in Europe.
