Digital Innovation Helping to Transform Care Services

Tunstall Theresa Griffin, MEP for the North West, met Tunstall Healthcare Group to discuss how technology-enabled housing is supporting a wide range of people in Liverpool. The discussions followed the launch of the European Single Digital Market and the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Parliament.

Tunstall Healthcare uses technology to help transform the care services across a range of sectors, such as healthcare, housing and social care to help integrate the service provision for patients. This involves a range of new digital and mobile technology provisions and efficient software platforms.

Theresa Griffin, Labour's spokesperson on digital in Europe, said: "It has been really interesting to see how the integration of health, housing and social care can really help people in the North West - particularly when innovative technologies are used in support. It really demonstrates just how important digital communications and technologies are and how they can assist in the management of people's health needs and in combatting social isolation.

"We need to be supporting SMEs who have great ideas in the digital field and making sure that they have everything they need to succeed."

The meeting was hosted by The Riverside Group, one of the UK’s leading Registered Providers of Social Housing, providing support and affordable housing to 85,000 tenants and residents throughout England. It is estimated that by 2020 50% of its tenants will be aged 50+.

Alison Rogan, Group External Affairs Director at Tunstall Healthcare UK, said: "Tunstall Healthcare has been supporting health, housing and social care partners for nearly 60 years, in the use of technology, underpinned by high-touch, high quality services, to ensure that older people and those with long term needs can live independently, securely, healthily and happily in a place of their choice.

"Today was a great opportunity, kindly hosted by 'The Riverside Group', to be able to share with Theresa how innovative technology-enabled housing is supporting a wide range of people in Liverpool and indeed around the world."

Ed Hughes Performance Manager at The Riverside Group said: "We were delighted to host today's meeting with both Teresa and Tunstall. Supporting our tenants to remain healthy and independent is really important and we see technology as a key enabler to help us achieve this goal. With our own Healthcare Monitoring Centre supporting over 8,000 people, it is our ambition that through collaboration and innovation we can become a centre of excellence not just in the UK but across the whole of Europe."
