conhIT 2010 - Industry Fair, Congress, Academy and Networking

conhIT 2010From 20 to 22 April 2010 all the activities on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds will be focused on the subject of IT in the healthcare system. All the main players will be meeting at "conhIT - Connecting Healthcare IT", Europe's largest and most comprehensive event for this sector, where they can learn about the latest developments in the industry, make contacts and obtain high level advanced training.

The conhIT programme flyer has now been published and contains details about all the events which complete the content-related aspects of the Industry Fair (daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.). In addition to the Congress programme (daily 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) these also include the conhIT Academy, various Networking highlights and the workshop satellite programme from GMDS e.V. and BVMI e.V. on Monday, 19 April.

conhIT Congress 2010 with the slogan "A competitive edge through innovative IT"
With a combination of 40 technical papers, user reports and discussions the conhIT Congress will deal with the subjects of telematics and legally safe archiving, cooperation through IT, organisation in IT, and medical applications.

In a relaxed atmosphere the Congress will begin with warm-up sessions at 9 a.m. on 21 and 22 April. Taking a more light-hearted approach, Dr. Carl-Michael Reng from Kreisklinik Bogen will pose the question of how much IT do doctors actually need, or conversely, how many doctors does IT need. In the panel discussion about 'Computer-aided ageing with elderly people who have an affinity for computers', Prof. Dr. Reinhold Haux from the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Information Technology and Bernhard Calmer, member of the board of VHitG e.V., will address the subject of "Ambient Assisted Living".

The congress programme has been compiled by the President of the Congress, Prof. Dr. Peter Haas (GMDS e.V.), and his deputies Dr. Carl Dujat (BVMI e.V.), Dr. Uwe Gansert (VKG e.V.) and Andreas Kassner (VHitG e.V.), and the subject matter has been carefully coordinated with the Advisory Board of the Congress, whose members consist of more than 30 representatives of the most important institutions in the healthcare sector. The conhIT Congress 2010 is being organised in cooperation with BVMI e.V., GMDS e.V., VHitG e.V. and with the involvement of KH-IT e.V. and ALKRZ.

Once again in 2010 the Berlin Medical Council is awarding continuing medical training certification in the form of three points each day for the conhIT Congress. Simultaneous translation, in German and English, will be provided for all the papers.

IT solutions for the healthcare sector are also of interest to doctors
The medical orientation of the subject matter will also be given added emphasis through the cooperation for the first time with the German Surgeon's Congress, which will be taking place at the same time in 2010 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. PD Dr. Rainer Burgkart, Senior Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery Physician at the Munich Technical University's Klinikum rechts der Isar, and congress secretary of the Surgeons' Congress, welcomes the collaboration between these two events. "IT continues to make inroads in hospitals. Physicians are frequently unaware that they are working with IT on a daily basis, because it is not just in use in innovative telemedical projects but also in those applications which are already established as part of everyday work processes, and which more or less take place alongside them."

During the two days in particular there will be in-depth discussions between the participants in these two events. On 21 April a joint congress session at the Surgeons’ Congress (Room 6, ICC Berlin) will deal with the subject of "Patient Safety through IT" and on 22 April there will be a report on the use of IT in the treatment of cancer at conhIT (Hall 1.2, Room 1) under the title "Intuitive tumour documentation - to prevent the documentation becoming a tumor". Tickets for conhIT and the Surgeons' Congress are valid for both events. A bus shuttle will link the two adjacent events.

conhIT Academy 2010
The conhIT Academy 2010, under the chairmanship of the Academy President Prof. Dr. Christian Johner, will offer three highly topical seminars which will be of great interest to everyone involved in conhIT: Identifying and avoiding legal pitfalls in IT projects (speaker: Attorney Werner Bachmann), Usability engineering for cost savings and improved benefits (speaker: Thomas Geis); Risk management with medical IT systems (speakers: Prof. Dr. Christian Johner, Jochen Kaiser). The didactically trained speakers will be allowing the participants in the Academy several hours for learning, discussions and exercises. Early registration is advisable because each seminar is limited to just 40 participants. Tickets for the Academy are obtainable in addition to the conhIT day ticket or three-day ticket.

Networking and theme-based guided tours
Networking at conhIT will range from the traditional conhIT Party on the first evening of the fair to public panel discussions and a relaxed get-together in the Networking area. The conhIT Careers Day on 22 April is also ideal for encouraging networking: this is where students and young professionals can learn about the prerequisites for a successful career launch in this sector, and can make direct contact with the companies.

As a new feature this year there will also be daily guided tours of the Industry Fair, dealing with the main topics in healthcare IT. One of these tours focuses on subjects of particular interest to surgeons. It will take place directly after Session 9 on Tumor Documentation, starting at 11.15 a.m. on 22 April 2010. The assembly point will be the VhitG stand in Hall 1.2.

The conhIT programme flyer and additional details for exhibitors and visitors can be found on the conhIT website (also in English) and can be downloaded.
