The first of a series of international VPH Conferences (VPH2010) will be organised by the Virtual Physiological Human Network of Excellence - VPH NoE and will be supported by the European Commission ICT for Health / DG Information Society and Media.
The first meeting is designed to be a relatively small meeting up to a maximum of 200 participants with high profile key speakers and will contain the very best of VPH research. Parallel sessions will be held on both days with proposed topics in five main themes; Organ Systems, Modelling Scales, Research Methodology, Application Domains and Data Access and Information Assurance.
Submissions for posters or for oral presentations are welcome. Both kinds of submissions will be subject to the same reviewing process. Contributors are asked to submit abstracts rather than full papers. Submitted abstracts will be selected for inclusion in VPH 2010 by the VPH 2010 Programme Committee for:
- Inclusion as an oral presentation and Invitation to submit a full paper for possible inclusion in the Interface Focus Issue
- Inclusion as an oral presentation and/or
- Inclusion as a poster or
- Not suitable for inclusion
Talks and posters will appear in electronic format on the conference web pages via the VPH NoE website.
The submission should be no more than 2 A4 pages of text in a word file (1800 words) or up to three pages if it includes diagrams, tables and references, with the extra space devoted to these and any captions. Font size should be no smaller than 10 pt Times New Roman with 2.5cm margins. All pages should be numbered and diagrams and tables should be positioned in their proper place in relation to the text, ensuring that the total contribution does not exceed 3 pages. Authors invited to prepare full manuscripts for submission to Interface Focus will also need to adhere to a further schedule for submission and review; final copy will be required by 15th February 2011. About the VPH Network of Excellence
The VPH Network of Excellence (VPH NoE) is designed to foster, harmonise and integrate pan-European research in the field of i) patient-specific computer models for personalised and predictive healthcare and ii) ICT-based tools for modelling and simulation of human physiology and disease-related processes.
The main objectives of the VPH Network of Excellence are to support the:
- Coordination of research portfolios of VPH NoE partners through initiation of Exemplar integrative research projects that encourage inter-institution and interdisciplinary VPH research.
- Integration of research infrastructures of VPH NoE partners through development of the VPH ToolKit: a shared and mutually accessible source of research equipment, managerial and research infrastructures, facilities and services.
- Development of a portfolio of interdisciplinary training activities including a formal consultation on, and assessment of, VPH careers.
- Establishment of a core set of VPH-related dissemination and networking activities which will engage everyone from partners within the VPH NoE/other VPH projects, to national policy makers, to the public at large.
- Creation of Industrial, Clinical and Scientific Advisory Boards that will jointly guide the direction of the VPH NoE and, through consultation, explore the practical and legal options for real and durable integration within the VPH research community.
- Implementation of key working groups that will pursue specific issues relating to VPH, notably integrating VPH research worldwide through international physiome initiatives.
