Salford Conference to Help Make New Models of Care a Reality

7 July 2015, Salford, UK.
Practical ways of achieving the new models of care outlined in NHS England's Five Year Forward View will be the central focus of a landmark health and care conference. Hosted and led by the University of Salford in collaboration with NHS England and MedeAnalytics, leaders and communities from across health and social care will come together at the Digital Health Summit, to explore how they can fundamentally redesign services around individuals and enable local health economies to achieve genuine integration, predictively model and meet the entire health needs of individual patients.

Set in Manchester against the pioneering Devo Manc landscape, where cutting edge devolved planning of health and social care is set to revolutionise the experience of patients, carers and the public, the Digital Health Summit will explore how local health economies can actually become reality by integrating services across primary, secondary, social care and beyond in order to focus services around individuals.

Professor Shahid Ali, a GP and professor of digital health at the University of Salford said: "We want to work in partnership with the NHS, academics and industry to demonstrate how integrating fragmented services to deliver real patient-centred centred care can enable system wide change and be made a reality at scale. Set in a pioneering part of the country, the Digital Heath Conference will showcase real examples and approaches that are starting to address this challenge, and will share ideas of how we can really empower patients and deliver services around the individual."

The event will be heavily focussed on placing patients at the heart of healthcare. Precision analytics, which is enabling local health economies to plan around real needs, will also form the basis of one key discussion, with high profile panellists including:

  • Mike Farrar, former NHS Confederation chief executive
  • Dr Mark Davies, medical director at MedeAnalytics and former medical director of Health and Social Care Information Centre
  • Lord Victor Adebowale, chief executive Turning Point and non-executive director NHS England
  • David Haslam, chair, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
  • David Hodson, head of information, East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group
  • Simon Rollason, programme manager, business intelligence services, NHS England Midlands and East

Wayne Parslow, UK general manager at MedeAnalytics, said: "Managing the health and particularly wellness of individual patients very differently and placing them at the heart of local health economies is the future. We have a real opportunity to move from centuries-old generic approaches of public health, to really understanding the individuals that make up populations so that we can take responsibility for their entire outcomes, join-up services around patients and unlock opportunities around risk stratification, predictive care and more. The Digital Health Summit takes place at the beginning of this journey and will help shape the direction of travel, drawing on powerful examples from the North."

The Digital Health Summit will equip delegates with new understanding how of collaboration across healthcare, social care and the private sector can be achieved. It will help them to see how technology can be used plan flexible approaches to care that are built around the needs of patients, whilst improving efficiencies and enhancing quality.

Jane Dwelly, head of health and care innovation at NHS England, said: "Health and care is changing right across England, and Devolved Greater Manchester is the prime example of those reforms. Developing really effective, integrated and user-friendly digital solutions is key to transforming our health and social care systems in the Five Year Forward View, and great ideas can come from anywhere.

"At our Wild Camp Expo 'un-conference' at Salford's Digital Health Summit, delegates will be able to present their ideas and visions for how digital solutions can make dramatic improvements to health and care. The format is designed to generate inspiration and practical advice, ahead of our Health and Care Innovation Expo in Manchester on 2 and 3 September. Hosted by NHS England, Expo 2015 is the most significant health and care event of the year. Delegates will be inspired by the most influential speakers from home and abroad, and can learn and network in our feature zones and pop-up university which will include in-depth content around Digital Health and Devolved Greater Manchester."

The Digital Health Conference will be held at Salford University on 7th July 2015. Individuals interested in attending should visit http://www.salford.ac.uk/onecpd/courses/digital-health-conference-and-exhibition to reserve a place.
