IMS MAXIMS to Address the UK's Dementia Challenge at HC2013

IMS MAXIMSIMS MAXIMS will highlight the need for systems that support NHS trusts with the early diagnosis and improved care of patients with dementia at the forthcoming national health IT conference and exhibition, HC2013.

IMS MAXIMS medical director, Angela White, who has extensive clinical experience in providing strategic service development to improve delivery of patient care, will present a session on how the dementia challenge is already affecting the national health service with more than half of patients admitted as an emergency to trauma and orthopaedic services over the age of 65 years old and more than a quarter of those admitted with a degree of cognitive impairment.

The session, which will be held in Theatre 1, Birmingham ICC on 17th April 2013 at 12pm will also discuss how formally identifying those with such impairments and supporting their health and social care needs has been at best fragmented and needs to be improved.

Attendees to the event will also see IMS MAXIMS showcase its new dementia module based on NICE guidelines, which not only prompts healthcare professionals to make relevant assessments for people with suspected dementia but also guides them to the correct care pathway to ensure that they receive the most appropriate referral and treatment.

The module which was developed earlier this year to assist organisations in delivering the quality and standards set by the national CQUIN target is already being used in the NHS helping clinicians in all specialties manage this aspect of patients' care in a coherent way.

As part of its strategy to develop new products that deliver electronic healthcare faster, better and most cost-effectively, IMS MAXIMS will also be demonstrating its VTE module at HC2013. The VTE system enables clinicians to identify, review and input VTE assessment details as well as be notified when patients may be about to breach the 24 hour national target. Using the IMS MAXIMS VTE System will help to reduce the number of preventable deaths that occur in UK hospitals every year.
