Advanced therapies are a major part of new Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) Calls for proposals. The two advanced therapies topics aim to accelerate research into advanced therapies for rare diseases, and support the development of engineered T cells to fight cancer. Although injuries in these areas are often categorised as minor, misdiagnosis and mismanagement can hamper recovery and lead to financial cost. However, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning could help create systems that prevent misdiagnosis.

Open Access Drug Development Tools Feature in New IMI Call for Proposals
New open access tools for drug development, obesity, and the environmental impacts of medicines are the focus of a new IMI2 Call for proposals launched today. The total budget of the Call is over EUR 80 million. Half of this comes from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme and will fund the participation in the projects of universities, small and medium-sized companies, patient groups etc.
