The Health-EU Portal Celebrates its 2nd Anniversary

Health-EU"The Health-EU portal is a gateway to health information in 20 languages. I hope it will soon become one of the first places where European citizens seek health information on the web. The information has to be clear, concise and relevant to their needs - providing the users with the tools and information they need to make informed healthy choices" says Robert Madelin, Director General for the Health and Consumers Directorate General of the European Commission.

With over 5,000 pages of text and over 400,000 hits per month, the Health-EU portal is growing quickly. By the end of the year, 2 new languages will be added – Romanian and Bulgarian. Every 2 weeks, more than 3,000 subscribers receive the e-newsletter, translated in 20 languages with the latest EU health news, events and a focus on a key health topic.

The Health-EU portal is an initiative of the European Commission and brings together health information grouped around 47 health themes. The information is compiled from a wide range of sources including: EU institutions, EU Member States, Non-Governmental Organisations and International Organisations.

About Health-EU Portal
The Portal is an initiative of the Community Public Health Programme 2003-2008 intended to permit greater involvement of individuals, institutions, associations, organisations and bodies in the health sector by facilitating consultation and participation. In this framework, attention is given to the right of the EU population to receive simple, clear and scientifically sound information about measures to protect health and prevent diseases. One of the main aims of the portal is to convey that citizens share responsibility for improving their health. Increased awareness of the different EU activities and programmes relating to Public Health will help the general public contribute to and support them.
